Scott has been involved with conflict/peace studies since 2005. It was through this involvement that he started studying Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in 2007, and he has been learning, living, and teaching NVC ever since then. Scott is a part of an intense 3-5 year certification program sponsored by the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC.org). He is scheduled to complete the certification program and become a CNVC Certified Trainer by the end of 2012.
He has also completed over 300 hours of training in conflict studies under the direction of Adam McGough, J.D. and sociologist Glenn Currier in the Mediation & Conflict Resolution program at El Centro.
Professionally, he works as an independent conflict engagement specialist. He is an experienced mediator (litigated and non-litigated cases) and offers training, conflict coaching, and facilitation. He also enjoys working with businesses and organizations to reduce unseen systemic conflict, helping to increase productivity and efficiency, and increase their client/customer satisfaction. For this particular facet of his work, he draws not only on his experience with conflict engagement, but also on twelve years prior experience with architecting large scale software systems and managing teams to build them for corporations.
Service and community are important to Scott, and in his free time he volunteers as a mediator at the Dallas community mediation center (DMS), serves as one of the leaders of an active community group in the Dallas neighborhood of Deep Ellum, and volunteers to lead meditation sessions for the Zen center of which he is a member.
Scott is currently pursuing a master's degree in sociology.
